Sales Prospecting For Entrepreneurs & Solo-Preneurs
Today I will be sharing with you sales prospecting, what it is and how to use it in following posts but for now lets look at what sales prospecting is and is NOT. Many people believe that prospecting is only for the professional sales person. If you have been in your business for a while you would agree with me that this way of thinking may keep you broke.
So here’s what sales prospecting is not about;
- sales prospecting is not about hitting everybody you come across
- Its not about NOT being human
- and it’s certainly NOT about pitching
So What is Sales Prospecting?
First the word prospecting comes from the mining industry which in meaning “is finding precious Minerals”. Looking for gems takes work and effort. This also means that we are not looking for anybody and everybody to take a look at our product or service. We are only looking for the right people and we determine who is right for us and who is not.
So you have so much power to determine who works with you and who does not; who gets your product and who does not! Its that plain and simple. However, to get to the gold we need to talk to some dirt.
In sales prospecting, the idea is not to present our product or service there and then. The idea is that we introduce ourselves and exchange details and look for a possibility of arranging appointment.
Why Sales Prospecting so Important
Not having anybody to talk to about your business is the worst thing for most entrepreneurs, businesses, and sales people alike. It is the determining factor to how well you will do so it is only wise to place prospect on the top of your list. Sales prospecting is necessary because it ensures that your pipeline is always full of people to talk to about what you do. When you prospect regularly and all the time you never run out of people to talk about what you do. This is very basic and absolutely essential because it is the foundation of a successful business.
